Tillicum Village

On Pier 55 in the Historic waterfront town of Seattle you’ll find Argosy Cruises. They offer the 8 ½ mile round trip to Tillicum Village, but getting there is half the fun. Nothing beats the views of Seattle’s downtown sky line from Puget Sound on a sunny day.

Boat loads of lucky travelers take in the view. The clear sky and blue seas of Puget Sound fill the horizon as sleek boats will full sails skim the water in effortless beauty; a reminder that Seattle’s waterway is one of the busiest ports in the world. “The San Juan Islands’ beautiful mountains are a stunning backdrop to cruise to a preserved island in its natural state, Blake Island. Many come to sample salmon and steamed clams in the traditional way of the First People. Tillicum village is a fabulous treasure in the area.”(Mark Hewitt)

Opened since 1962, Tillicum Village shared with others the Indian method of cooking fish, the Northwest style of cooking with cedar stakes on an Alder Fish. “The main aspect of Tillicum Village is to share the First People’s culture with kids who come here to work as well as the quest of those who come here to experience what we have to offer.” (Hewitt)

Aside from the Chinook Salmon Feast, guests take a Journey, of the Northwest, back in time thru Native American story telling, legend, and dance. All takes place in a replica of a Northwest Native American long house. Dramatic scenes present Native culture from tribes in South West Alaska to the Columbia River in Oregon. “The program we run here gives people a spoon of sugar, a little taste of the Northwest Native American culture in 2 hours. We hope it lights a spark beguiles you to learn about the culture…to explore and learn something about the folks that lived here for thousands of years before we got here.”(Hewitt) http://tillicumvillage.com
