Geiser Grand Hotel

It was back in 1870 when the town of Baker City, Oregon was granted its city charter and soon became the center of social activity in the Northwest. As the gold mining industry was booming, Baker City served as a support center for miners and once held the largest population in the entire state of Oregon. Located just off Highway 84 approximately midway between Pendleton and Boise is the historical town of Baker City. In 1889 a couple of local merchants, Harry and Jake Warshauer, spent $65,000 dollars to build a hotel for business travelers from across the nation. Near the turn of the century a local mine owner named Al Geiser purchased the hotel. Current owner and operator of the hotel, Barbara Sidway talks about the hotels early days.

Right on main street in the heart of town, the Geiser Grand Hotel stands proudly with its prominent clock tower under the waving American Flag. The rooms and suites in the hotel are decorated with a true feeling of being transported back in time to the nineteenth century. The large fourteen foot ceilings are adorned with crystal chandeliers and tall windows provide guests with stunning views of the city and nearby mountains.

For a fantastic meal you needn’t walk too far. The chefs at the Geiser Grill have been repeatedly praised for the high quality of food and service.
