Today, the sport of 4x4’ing has expanded to include specially designated parks and trails, clubs and several well-known competitive events. The rugged mountains of Washington State are an ideal location to ride hard and have a lot of fun doing it. A sunny fall day in the Wenatchee National Forest provides a scenic backdrop as our group of 4x4 enthusiasts prepare for an exciting trip on the trails. Sportsman Tim Nehls talks a little about what the crew can be ready for on this brisk morning deep in the heart of the Cascade Mountain Range.
"WERE GONNA SEE EVERYTHING, WERE GONNA SEE ROCK, WERE GONNA SEE MUD WERE GONNA SEE TIGHT TURNS, TWISTING TRAILS." (Tim Nehls, Sportsman)
The Naches Ranger district provides over 125 miles of road and trail available for 4x4ing about six months of the year, primarily during the summer months. Maintaining these trails and protecting natures surroundings are important aspects of the sport and these folks take it very seriously. Being prepared for these trips is a must; maps of the designated trails and roads are available on-line and through some of the local ranger stations and are necessary to keep the drivers on course. Most of the rocky roads in these parts are a bit much for the family mini-van and these sportsmen spend a lot of time and energy devoted to maintaining their rides. Proper equipment, parts and routine care are crucial to safely conquering some of the tougher trails and monster rocks.
THEY HAVE DIFFERENT LEVELS OF TRAILS UP HERE AND THERE DESIGNATED ON THE MAPS, EASY, MORE DIFFICULT MOST DIFFICULT. SO A GUY WHATEVER HES SET UP FOR, HIS VEHICLE. HE CAN ENJOY THAT PART OF THE TRAIL AND KNOW WHAT HES GETTING IN TO.(TIM NEHLS)
